Conventional Demolition

Demolition Services

What is conventional demolition?

Conventional demolition is the tried‑and‑tested process of bringing down buildings and structures using mechanical plant and controlled, sequenced methods. It covers everything from single‑storey sheds to multi‑storey brick and block buildings, where material is removed piece‑by‑piece with excavators, breakers, cranes and crushing equipment rather than by implosion or highly specialist techniques. In short: it’s the pragmatic, efficient way to clear a site so a new project can begin.

Typical scope — what conventional demolition covers

A conventional demolition package commonly includes:

  • Pre‑works soft strip and decommissioning (removal of non‑structural finishes, M&E isolation).

  • Structural takedowns: partial or full removal of brick, block, concrete and steelwork.

  • Floor slab and foundation removal where required.

  • Roof and canopy removal, including lightweight and profiled sheet systems.

  • Internal demolition: breaking out walls, floors and stair cores to prepare for follow‑on work.

  • Concrete cutting, coring and controlled breaking for services and openings.

  • On‑site crushing and screening (where permitted) and load‑out to minimise haulage.

  • Segregation, recycling and licensed disposal of arisings.

How we do it

methodical, machine‑led, meticulous How do you turn a complex knockdown into a smooth operation? By planning every lift and cut. Our conventional demolition process typically follows:

  • Detailed pre‑start surveys (structural review, utilities, asbestos and ecological checks).

  • Site‑specific method statements, RAMS and temporary works designs.

  • Isolation and safe removal of M&E by competent operatives.

  • Sequenced mechanical demolition using tracked excavators, hydraulic breakers, shears, pulverisers and cranes as required.

  • Dust suppression, local extraction and careful traffic management during material handling.

  • Continuous supervision, monitoring and QA to ensure each phase completes to specification.
