NEC Arena — Precision Strip, Powerful Delivery

When a high‑profile venue needs a fast, flawless turnaround, there’s no room for guesswork. At the NEC Arena Quantum Group delivered a full hands‑on soft strip of the BP Pulse suite — a complex, time‑critical rip‑out executed with scale, discipline and the practical ingenuity that keeps programmes on track.

Two Weeks. Twenty People. Task Complete.

When the client set a two‑week deadline, Quantum Group answered with precision planning, decisive leadership and sheer workforce horsepower — completing a full soft strip of the BP Pulse suite in just 14 days with a 20‑strong team. How did we do it? By turning logistics into an advantage and discipline into speed.

Scope at a glance — what we removed and why it mattered.

What does a full soft strip look like in a busy arena environment? For this package we removed:

  • Ceiling tiles and grid systems across the suite

  • Ceiling‑mounted HVAC systems, ductwork and associated insulation

  • Electrical cable runs and containment back to isolation points

  • Doors, door frames and internal joinery

  • A continuous plasterboard and stud bulkhead running the length of the suite

  • Vinyl floor coverings and fixed bar fittings
Each element was stripped out to enable rapid follow‑on fit‑out and M&E works; every stage was sequenced to protect the building and maintain safety for site teams and stakeholders.

Leadership & planning — how the job was brought over the line?

Who pulled the plan together and made sure it worked on the ground? Our Demolition Manager, Paul Hardman, led the site with meticulous forward planning, pragmatic sequencing and a laser focus on waste management and segregation. Regular site visits from our Managing Director, Daniel Gamble, paired with Paul’s operational oversight to refine methods and logistics. Together they devised key innovations — including the scaffold ramp and telehandler handling system — that removed bottlenecks and guaranteed the programme stayed on track.

Access & material handling — the ramp, the telehandler and the logic behind it.

How do you move tonnes of waste down from a first‑floor suite without clogging escape routes or wasting time? We engineered a bespoke scaffold with a decked ramp, creating a clean, controlled route for waste transfer. Our telehandler driver loaded segregated bins on the ramp; the telehandler then transported and emptied those bins into our on‑site skips. This system:

  • Reduced manual handling and injury risk

  • Maintained clear escape and access routes for the venue

  • Saved hours per shift in transit time

  • Allowed immediate segregation at source for recycling and disposal
It was a practical, decisive solution — and a crucial factor in meeting the contractor’s deadline.

Curious How It Looked First?

A quick look at the BP Pulse suite as we found it — the starting point for our two‑week, 20‑person soft strip that cleared the way for the rebuild.
