Ocado Headquarters — From Hazard to Handover
When a project needs a steady, safety‑first hand, Quantum Group stepped in at Ocado Headquarters and took control. Brought on after a previous contractor was removed from site over health & safety concerns, we completed a disciplined soft strip package focused on full HVAC system removal from the second‑floor ceiling, handled large volumes of insulation and debris, and finished with a responsive rooftop flagstone replacement — all delivered cleanly, safely and to the relief of the main contractor.

How do you remove bulky HVAC plant from a live office environment without disruption or risk? Our team started with a clear, staged plan: isolate and de‑energise services, set exclusion zones and temporary works and sequence the removal so the building remained as usable and safe as possible. The second floor ceiling-mounted HVAC network was carefully disconnected, labelled and cut into manageable sections. Rather than relying on brute force, we used controlled mechanical cutting and methodical manual handling where required, ensuring that every section was safe to lower and transport. By breaking the ductwork and ancillaries into smaller pieces we avoided heavy lifts in tight areas and kept movements predictable and safe.

What happens to the tonnes of insulation that come out with HVAC systems? We treated insulation removal as a specialist task. All loose and fixed insulation was stripped from ductwork and plant, bagged or bundled on removal, and placed into neat, segregated piles behind protective barriers. Where dust and fibres were a risk, we deployed local extraction, negative‑pressure containment and wetting techniques to control airborne fibres. Piles were cordoned off, labelled and staged for safe transfer to skips and licensed disposal, ensuring the site remained tidy and environmentally compliant throughout the operation.
